Ben (left), Thor (Torey center) stopped in to assist during breakfast, Brian (too focused for pics, right).

So far Tyler is maintaining all the appropriate numbers on his own. If this continues, progress may increase exponentially. If not, we now know he's in there, and just waiting to emerge.

Tyler looks great, his temp and other vitals are OK. The nurse roused him when I arrived, he smiled, held my hand, and said hi. The perfect topping to a great day. The fund raisers, pancake breakfast in the A.M. and Ultimate Frisbee tournament were incredibly successful. Our deepest thanks for all the folks that pitched in. The families of these young people that planned and perfectly executed these events should be very proud. Tomorrow will bring even more challenges.

Big news!!! Tyler had the breathing tube removed, and said "hi" to the nurse. He's going to be very restless which is typical of head trauma patients during this phase of recovery. If Tyler is able to maintain his O2 levels he should be done with the respirator. Steps forward.

May 28-1 0500

Tyler bothering the fish in Colorado.

The night passed uneventfully, and the staff is reducing the pain meds from his IV in deference to a pain management patch. The big event later today will be using the respirator to slightly stress his breathing process to ensure Ty can maintain his blood O2 levels all on his own. If he does, they will remove the ventilator all together. Fingers and toes crossed.

Tyler remains consistent, still fighting the low grade fever, but all other vitals are good.

As of the most recent data, Ty still has a very low grade fever, otherwise all other vitals are good. He was put in a chair, and even though mildly sedated, he continues to move and follow commands. The next step is determining if it's OK to remove the breathing tube. Fingers crossed, and patience as always.

May 27-3 0720

Ty's ventilator assistance is way down meaning he is almost completely independent. The staff still has him on mild sedation and pain meds for comfort, but it's time to serious;y discuss taking out the breathing tube. He gave the nurse a big smile on request earlier, and his responses continue to be good.

Tyler had an uneventfull night, he is on some sedation and pain meds to help him rest through the low grade fever, but all other vitals are good.

Bloger's been having a bit of trouble lately, resulting in Comments not working due to a infinite look and the followers button disappearing. FortunatelyIt's not just us, and the Blogger staff is aware of the problem, so a fix should be out reasonably soon. In the mean time there's a guestbook near the bottom of the page (after the last blog post) you could use. I've also enabled anonymous commenting, so that might work as well.

For those who may not know it, Tyler's buddy Nic is my IT go to guy. There's no way I could have set this up and maintained the blog without his expertise. ( I have no idea what an "infinite" look is) I'm just skilled enough to use the thing once it's set up. Many thanks to Nic, who was also one of the very first people to get to Tyler after he got hit. Smart and courageous is a hell of a combo... ladies you better hurry, he's not going to be on the market long.

Ty at Grammy's place... Grammy's finger in frame.

Tyler is having a very good night so far. He's following commands, and smiling. He is still in ICU, and it will probably be some time before we can open the Tyler exhibit to his adoring fans, or take the show on the road.

All's quiet on the Tyler front. Tyler was put back to bed about an hour ago and all vitals are good and stable.
This weekend there are 2 fundraisers for Tyler on Saturday. From 7-11 there's a pancake breakfast, and at 11 starts an ultimate Frisbee tournament. Both of these were set in motion by some of Tyler's wonderful friends and many others. The people, especially the young people in this community are amazing. They see something needing to get done, and instead of sitting around hoping someone does it, they take the initiative. We couldn't be prouder of them if they were our own kids.

Tyler is resting comfortably, and even though the respirator is supplying some O2, he's breathing all on his own. He responded moving all appendages, even sticking out his tongue and smiling. Ty continues to bewitch the hearts of staff members. Folks who no longer have a working association with Ty stop by anytime they are in the area to talk to him and give us hugs. The quality of all the people, and consequently of all the care Tyler has, is beyond belief. When Tyler comes back to us he will have a new and special birthday, and all the good people here are a major part of this.

Ty's temp is 98.6 without a cooling blanket on and all his vitals are good enough to reduce his ventilator settings yet again. The staff feels the new course of antibiotics are taking hold. Another baby step to the goal.

Don’t Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you must not quit.

Tyler continues to fight the infection with mildly fluctuating temps. Otherwise all is stable and constant. He continues to respond to commands and is making slow progress. In an earlier conversation with our friend Larry Fiddler, the Lakota healer, he said they were going to conduct a ceremony in thanks of Tyler's healing and recovery, this remains a foregone conclusion and result for him which makes our hearts soar.

A slight temp, to be expected, otherwise Tyler had a good night. We begin again.

Genesis 1
1In the beginning when God created* the heavens and the earth, 2the earth was a formless void. 3Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn that love doesn't mean possession
and company doesn't mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises and you begin to accept
your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build your roads today
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
and futures have ways of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
burns if you get too much so you plant your
own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
that you really are strong
and you really do have worth

and you learn
and you learn...

A young Ty getting ready to jam with one of his greatest fans.

Tyler is having a very good night so far. He is resting and his vitals are stable. We are currently letting the new antibiotic do it's thing, and we'll see what the morning brings.

Sorry for the delay, technical difficulties. Currently all of Tyler's vitals are good. The staff was able to ID the infection, and oddly (or ironically) enough it's a type of staff infection. This info is actually very helpful, now we can specifically target the bug with a tailor made antibiotic, instead of carpet bombing Ty with a broad spectrum dose. The nurses are controlling Ty's temp very well, and we hope over the course of this current treatment he will pass this hurdle.

I have been looking for a catch phrase for this sureal, and life altering event. Coolidge may have something with "Press on". As in "Press on Tyler". We are all in this together, let me know any thoughts on the subject.

Spoke with the neurosurgeon who says Tylers head is healing beautifully, the concern is the lung infection and his BP. Once these are under control, we can begin moving forward in earnest. There is also some concern regarding his formerly dislocated and fractured left arm. They want to test for nerve damage, but can't til Tyler is lucid. As important as the whole Tyler is, We are more concerned about the head, lungs and heart. After all, he has 2 arms, and just one brain.

"A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones."

Tyler continues to fight the minor lung infection and BP battles. He got a great nights rest, and is ready to fight the good fight again today.

Just waiting for Ty to come home.

Ty had a good night, resting comfortably. Everything is stable.
Quick Tyler story-
Years ago when Ty was about 6 or 7, we were returning late from the Kelly's Christmas party with the 2 boys in the back seat sleeping, we thought. As we rounded the crest of the hill of RT 189 leading into Granby, there were several police cars with their lights on performing a safety/sobriety check. Out of nowhere, Tyler leans forward between the seats and says in a clear but hushed voice, "everyone act natural, it's the cops". I was worried he had just knocked over a 7-11. This is so Tyler.

The dogs miss Tyler terribly...especially Capone.

Tyler is having a good night so far, all his vitals are within limits and he's resting comfortably. Not long ago they roused him for a neuro-test. He opened his eyes, and gave a thumbs up, but was sluggish elsewhere. The staff does have him back on mild sedation, and his pain meds, so even when they back those off for the tests, we think there still residual effect for a long time which may influence his response.

"For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."-- Jeremiah 29:11

Special Thanks

We would like to take a moment to thank Tyler's buddy Nic for setting up this blog, and establishing an easy way to generate some funds for for Ty's rehab. (Go shameless capitalism). Ty is an amazing judge of character, and that's apparent in the quality of the friends he has.

Site Update (Nic)

Sorry folks, I don't have any news on Tyler, however I thought I'd do an update as to the changes that have been made to the blog. Over the past two days the number of followers doubled to 71, which really is amazing. Thanks for all of your well wishes and support of Tyler as well. Apparently a few people have been having trouble following the blog, so I moved the Followers button up to the top of the page. Go ahead and click on that if your interested; you can sign in through several different accounts, including your yahoo or gmail account. I also added RSS feed support through web based readers (If you're unaware what that is, don't worry about it, just some of this web 2.0 mumbo jumbo) at(http://feeds.feedburner.com/TylerPollockUpdates)

Additionally I enabled Adsense (hence all the ads) and so far today it's generated seven bucks, all of which will of course go to Tyler. So the easiest way to help is to keep checking for updates and spreading news of the blog. Thanks again for all the support and readership.
-Nic

-Edit: As I wrote this $2 was generated. You guys are awesome.

May 23-4 1400

Tyler was given some antibiotics to help fight the infection, and it seems to be working. When his pain meds are reduced, he moves around like crazy. He is continuing to respond to commands, and when Grammy asked him to open his eyes and look at her, Ty knew what was good for him and listened. Rule one: Don't mess with the Grammy.

Thanks for the comments and kind words. We will all persevere. Keep those hopes and prayers coming.

May 23-2 1050

Tyler's temp continues to go up and down a few tenths here and there. All his other numbers are good and stable.

Prom couple

Just wanted to k'vel (Yiddish for brag in a gushing parent sort of way) about how beautiful Josh and his date Jesse looked for the prom Friday night. Sorry the pic is so small, I'm still learning how to use these confounded new computer machines.

He calls me little old man, as in "Here little old man can I help you reach that can of soup".

His temp is 98.8, and he kept trying to climb out of bed over the railing. The staff gave him a mild sedative to get him to rest. The nurse said "I wasn't going to let him escape on my watch". All other vitals are good and stable.

Tyler's biggest furry fan, Capone. Capone has stolen Ty's bed, but assures us that Tyler can sleep on the floor next to him.

Tyler had a temp of 102.6, so the goal is to cool him down while awaiting the results of the culture taken earlier today. Instead of treating with a broad spectrum antibiotic, the goal is to identify the bug and target it specifically to completely eradicate it. Currently his temp is in the 101 range, so lower is better.

May 22-5 1750

The nurse was busy cooling Ty down, he started running a real fever, so We couldn't get a detailed update. Apparently except for the fever, he's unchanged.

May 22-4 1330

Ty's x-ray showed a little cloudy, but not significant enough yet to warrant another round of broad spectrum antibiotics. All his numbers are good, and we should hear regarding the results of the CT scan in a few hours.

To live is like to love--all reason is against it, and all healthy instinct for it.

May22-3 0900

Tyler's pain meds were turned back on after his neuro exam. He continues to respond and follow commands, now he's resting comfortably. The staff is a bit concerned regarding his white count, and ordered a CT of his abdomen, and a chest x-ray at 11:30 to ensure nothing was initially missed and the elevated count is just due to the healing process.

May 22-2 0745

Tyler remains stable, he still reacts to commands, and seems to be moving more on his own. He also seems to be more aware of his pain, or discomfort. I think this could be a good sign, but what the hell do I know. The nurse put up a pad on his right side to keep him from climbing out of bed, and they started lowering the support from the ventilator. Ty's movements are causing him to perform a periodic strip show. The nurse is getting him a pair of shorts.

The karate kid

Tyler is doing the same as yesterday, he's still responding, and his BP and temp fluctuate a bit now and then. We love seeing him open his eyes between naps, and all are trying to be patient, and appreciate whatever steps Ty is able to make.
