September 3-4 2100

Tyler had a nice visit with his Mom and Gabrielle, now he's relaxing, chatting on Skype. I look at how far he's come, and marvel at his resiliency. Yet I'm all too aware at how far he has yet to go. It's been a mere 4 months, but feels like far more. I think I've aged 20 years as of late (and still counting).

Lord save us all from... a hope tree that has lost the faculty of putting out blossoms.

A quiet day. I picked Tyler up at Nic's at noon, we did some house work, and took it easy. Tonight Ty is having dinner with his Mom, and tomorrow night he's going to a play in Hartford.

Peace is not something you wish for; It's something you make, Something you do, Something you are, And something you give away.

We had some technical difficulties yesterday, but we're all set now. Yesterday was very busy for Tyler. He stayed after his classes to attend a meeting of the horticulture club. Then it was home for a quick stay, then off to Nic's house for a sleep over. Busy, busy guy.

Below if the majority of a notice regarding the upcoming fundraiser for Tyler. The actual brochure has photos and is formatted nicely. This was the best I could do with my limited computer skills. At least the info is there.

After a good nights rest, Tyler decided to take the bus to school this morning. After his classes conclude around noon, he's going to stay in the media center, do his homework, and wait for the star of horticulture club. Ty is driven to reclaim his life, our job is to ensure he paces himself.

The boy cracks me up. I picked him up from school where he was holding court with his peeps. We went to his bank do deposit the birthday loot, and he kept some out, and bought me lunch. It was the best Cumberland Farms Bratwurst I've ever had. School went well today with no homework, how can you beat that? His day isn't done. He will be taking a walk at 2:00 and cleaning the kitchen at 4:00.... welcome home.

The Webster Dictionary definition of "Goofy teenager" has Tyler's picture in it. I left him at the HS this morning standing near the entry, coffee in hand, greeting all who enter. He is quite the "celeb". It's still apparent how far he has yet to go, but his present progress, and determination fill all who know him with confidence and hope. He revels being back in the middle of all his friends and classmates.

August 31-3 1930

A great dinner with Grammy and Marty at JG's in East Granby. Tyler is tired from a very busy day, with some school reading yet to do (AP psych). It's time to relax, watch the Sox game and call it a day.

Tyler's day at school went very well, his day ends at noon when Gabrielle picked him up to meet Linda and have lunch. Ty is on the way to PT, then home for a short rest, then a birthday dinner with Grammy, Marty, and I. Tyler will sleep well tonight.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TYLER, 17 years old. In honor of his birthday I dropped him off for his first day back at school. I also used his phone to take pictures which caused him to blush a bit. I think he's truly excited about being back in the mainstream with all his peeps.

August 30-3 1730

A little dinner, a bit of dessert, clean up and relax, all in preparation for the 1st day of school. I told Tyler I would be dropping him off and taking pictures, like the day he got on the bus for Kindergarten.

I asked if Tyler was apprehensive regarding his return to school, he said he's more concerned being under-challenged. He wanted to take an AP Calculus class instead of the regular Calculus class. We chatted, and he understands the logic in having his schedule set the way it is. Fortunately, Tyler had completed most of his graduation requirements in the previous 3 years (smart guy). Therefore it's a matter of completing a few credits, then walking across the stage in June.

I had planned for a final update before bed last night, but upon returning from dinner, the cable, and Internet were down again. electricity is such a fickle mistress. Dinner was great at Grammy and Marty's place. On the way home we stopped and got a few school supplies (why wait until the last minute, when the last second will do just fine), and received an announcement that due to the effects of the hurricane, Granby schools would open on Wednesday not Tuesday. Oddly enough Tyler's birthday is Wednesday, and he couldn't be more thrilled (said sarcastically). After school, Ty has therapy then a visit with his Mom, and finally dinner with me , Grammy, and Marty. The type of birthday any young man dreams of.

Having a birthday, whatever the age , beats the alternative.

August 29-2 1530

Tyler has a good Pt session, but the therapist was curious as to why Ty was so tired. He stated the previous therapist tired him out. This excuse worked until I ratted him out. Last night Ty stayed up way too late at his sleep over. The therapist gave him a huge, but good natured ration of crap for that. We are at Grammy and Marty's waiting for the Mah Jong game to end, and the dinner prep to begin. School starts in 15 hours and 40 minutes... Ty is thrilled (said sarcastically).

August 29-1 0950

We survived Hurricane Irene with apparent ease. In the words of Tyler "What a wimpy hurricane". Not to dismiss the terrible effects felt elsewhere, but here it was more hype than hurricane. Ty and I ate out yesterday as we lost power for about 24 hours. Last night he slept over buddy Jamie's house, where he, Nick, and Jamie (The 3 Musketeers... or Stooges, your choice), had a blast, and certainly got minimal sleep. Tyler has PT today, then we have an invitation to Grammy and Marty's place for dinner. Tomorrow school starts for Ty, and a whole new part of recovery as well.
