August 6-1 0830

Finally got finished feeding the eating machines. Manhole cover pancake,s bacon, milk, OJ, and coffee. It was great waking up and seeing that smiling Tyler face. The dogs love having him home, and took turns watching over Ty all night. A busy day of visiting, then if weather permits, a bonfire at the Bentley's.

August 5-2 1600

What a wonderful feeling, having both my boys home. Bob L. and I picked Ty up this afternoon, and he is great. Forget the wheelchair, the boy is mobile, and has been given the nickname "Speedy Gonzales". He is becoming more self sufficient and mobile, and its fantastic to see. Josh and Ty are busy in the "Man Cave" playing and working on the computers, and the dogs are simply pleased to have everyone home.

Thank you G-d for helping me realize all the wonders I have, instead of dwelling over whatever I think I'm lacking. I'm truly a lucky man.

Ty is readying himself for another days work. The latest has him walking from the Traurig House to Gaylord Hospital without assistance (about 100 yards). He has a cane, but he seems to use it primarily for security at this point. I'll be picking him up at 2:00 and can't wait to see my boy. He has an action packed weekend, with visitors, and a bonfire at the Bentleys tomorrow night.

August 4-2 1900

Tyler had an exhausting day enduring all the therapies like a trooper. Everyone says he's doing great and looking terrific. He's pooped and taking it easy this evening, looking forward to being home this weekend.

August 4-1 0830

Tyler sounds good this AM, with the usual litany of therapies on tap for the day. He understands that not every day will be an "E" ticket ride, but is necessary for his ultimate progress. Yesterday Ty's sight and walking looked much improved. At some point soon he's going to have a neurological evaluation to accurately determine his level of progress, and address future expectations for the start of school.

August 3-3 1850

Tyler made dinner tonight, Jambalaya, of course. Next week he's making chili and hot wings. He's at a support meeting this evening, and reports have him doing great. Josh has been communicating with him via the Internet the last few evenings, and the world may be starting to revolve in greased grooves.

“A happy life consists not in the absence, but in the mastery of hardships.”
-Helen Keller

August 3-2 1415

Josh and I visited Tyler earlier today, and he looks great. His smile is radiant and his attitude and determination are beyond belief. We were there for Ty's eye exam, and his vision is slowly getting better. Linda and I also have a meeting with The staff on Monday to discuss Tyler's release date, and return to school. Things are starting to move along and it's getting exciting.

- Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch

PS

We've just surpassed 80,000 views of Tyler's blog. Thanks again for everyone's support. As time goes by, especially with the progress Tyler is making, it's easy for continued support to wane. But our extended family is unbelievable in the amount of love and support which has consistently been shown. G-d bless all of you.

August 3-1 0730

Dinner ran late last night so the gang bypassed the movie. Ty seemed just as happy to relax and use his computer. After breakfast, It's off to therapy, and then he has a break around 11:00 so I'm going down there for lunch accompanied by Josh, if he wakes up by then.

August 2-4 2030

Even though Tyler is pretty tired, he's still going with the gang to the movies, Captain America. Ty is busier now than before his injury. A truly amazing kid.

I spoke with one of Tyler's posse at the Traurig House, and it seems all are impressed with Ty's drive and determination. Everyone mentions how good he looks, and how great he is at maintaining a positive attitude .

August 2-2 1200

Reports have Tyler busy with group and physical therapy today. He's on his way to lunch, then the routine continues. The staff is going to get Ty back to the pool for aqua therapy this week which will make our boy happy.

August 2-1 0715

Tyler sounds ready to tackle another day of Therapy. We all realize this, quite possibly is the home stretch, literally. If Ty's progress is sufficient, he could be released from Traurig House in a couple of weeks and finally come home. Then it's a matter of outpatient PT and getting ready for his Senior year. Tyler's steadfast determination, and focus is an inspiration to us all.

August 1-4 2230

Tyler is very tired after a very busy day. He sounds good and says he feels good. He is fully prepared and determined to do what ever is necessary in order to successfully complete his therapy requirements in order to get home for good. One can't help but admire his fortitude.

Consider the postage stamp: its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there.
~Josh Billings

August 1-3 1600

Getting Ty out of the hospital and over to Traurig was no problem, and he was glad to be out. He had some lunch, and went right off to therapy. Tyler looks good and is resolute to whatever is necessary to get him home permanently. He will be home for the weekends from now on (G-d willing and the river don't rise), and home for good in a few weeks (If all goes as planned).

August 1-2 0930

Yeah!!!! Tyler is going to be released to Traurig House in about an hour and a half. Ty wants to get right back to therapy today... one tough kid.

Perseverance... keeps honor bright: to have done, is to hang quite out of fashion, like a rusty nail in monumental mockery. ~William Shakespeare

August 1-1 0730

There's still no word regarding Ty's release, but his temp is way down towards normal. He's understandably frustrated, but trying to make the best of his situation, as always. He slept "OK" last night, waking up a few times due to the myriad of circumstances surrounding him.
Interesting note: I came across a gentleman yesterday with a "Proud to be Lakota" bumper sticker. We began to chat, and we now have a local friend of the Lakota Nation, Mr. Shane Gray Wolf. He's going to bring Ty some sage to help the healing process. It would seem the Lakota people are the same everywhere, wonderfully kind and generous.
Just in to the news desk... Tyler is cleared by the neurology department to return to Trauring House, now it's up to the folks at Traurig to decide if they will accept him with a low grade fever. Updates as they come in.

Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

July 31-3 2000

The staff took Ty for an X-ray to make sure his fever wasn't a result of anything lung related. The results are good, and it seems his fever is a result of a minor UTI which the antibiotics should resolve in short order. This poor guy can't catch a break, he seems destined to battle every step of the way.

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.
-Robert Frost

July 31-2 1700

Tyler is a bit bummed, being trapped in Hfd Hosp, but he knows how the deal works. He still has a fever, and he has to be fever free to move back to Traurig House. Fortunately he's had some visitors. After I saw him, Cathy and girlfriend Sara stopped by, a big morale burst. Tonight, Mom is stopping by with a movie to watch. This is as difficult a time as it is necessary, but Ty is sharp enough to understand, but wish things would move faster.

July 31-1 0750

Tyler sounds a bit drained this AM, and his emotions have been surfacing regarding the whole situation he's been subject to, he's also still waiting for breakfast, that may have something to do with it. I'll be going to visit before lunchtime bringing Taco Bell. Hopefully that adds some cheer to his day. We still don't know any details regarding release.
