PS

We don't feel a need to restrict or regulate any ones visitation for now. Anyone should feel free to visit him, we suggest calling the hospital first to ensure no scheduling conflicts (Our Tyler is a busy man these days). We also ask that folks consider Ty's need for rest, and his tendency to tire easily. That said, there is very little medicine in the world better than the smiling face of a friend.

June 25-2 2000

I called to get an update on Tyler, and his nurse told me to hold on and transferred me to Ty's room. Moments later I hear his hushed voice say hello. Tyler and I had a nice conversation regarding the double helping of dinner he had tonight, and how he beat his Mom in Crazy Eights.
I always told Ty, he was far stronger then he ever believed, and now he's proving it every day.

Tyler had a restful night, and an active morning. He had many visitors yesterday afternoon and evening. There's rumor of reconstructive surgery on July 11, we are trying to confirm this. Even though Tyler's movements are labored and an extreme effort, he is making progress. Knowing how Tyler used to be, and seeing him struggle to make a come back, is heart wrenching, but his progress, focus, and determination are inspiring.

June 24-3 2000

Tyler had a good dinner, some visitors, and went to the Friday night movie in the recreation center. He is doing well, and is all tuckered out from a busy schedule. Tomorrow begins another day.

Josh seeming surprised at actually graduating.

Tyler went to hear the guitarist last night. She played classic songs from the 40s through the70s, but when Ty requested "Did you ever see the rain" by CCR, she didn't know it. Ty had a busy AM packed full of PT, and he's resting waiting for lunch. The big news, starting Monday, Ty will be able to eat the next step of solid food. He asked if I could order some General Tsao's chicken from a local delivery place. Apparently he already scoped all this out.

June 24-1 0900

Ty had a very good night, sleeping comfortably after a very active day. I wasn't able to find out if he made it to the concert last nigh. I'll ask when I go to see him today.

You must not for one instant give up the effort to build new lives for yourselves. Creativity means to push open the heavy, groaning doorway to life. This is not an easy struggle. Indeed, it may be the most difficult task in the world, for opening the door to your own life is, in the end, more difficult than opening the doors to the mysteries of the universe.

June 23-3 1700

Tyler is finally getting a rest after his final PT session of the day. There's a guitarist playing in the recreation room tonight at 6:00. The nurse is going to ask if Ty is up to going to the concert. Hopefully he's awake enough to go, it's something he would enjoy.

Tyler remains in good spirits, especially after gobbling up his lunch in record time. I don't know how he is able to maintain his great attitude when it would be so easy to go to a place of anger. He is doing well with his therapies and is making small advances on a consistent basis.

Tyler is sitting upright for an extended period today to help his circulation. He is doing well in PT, and has been cleared to eat the next consistency level of food. This is very exciting news for our food motivated Tyler.

June 22-3 2030

Ty had a tiring day, with all the therapy, visitors, and meals. This evening Mom and Josh showed him videos of the healing ceremony held this past Sunday night. Tyler also got to see Josh's yearbook, and many of the comments made him smile.

"My father taught me that one of the most important abilities in life is to be able to take the pain and persevere, and for years this lesson had served me well."

June 22-2 1200

Tyler was seen by an optical specialist and fitted with glasses to eliminate the double vision. He is in good spirits, and is speaking in sentences. I pureed some pizza from our good friend Jeff at New York Pizza Delivery, and Ty is psyched for lunch. He asked if I could bring him some hot sauce, I reached in the bag and pulled out a jar. Tyler lit up like a Christmas tree.

PS
Ty had a visit from Bob Fitsgerald, Jamie, Parker, Nic, and Nick. We sat in the Japanese garden, it made Ty's day. Also last night Ty was visited by dear friend Tracey. He loves seeing the smiling familiar faces.

June 22-1 0830

Sorry for the lack of blogs yesterday, very busy. Tuesday Ty had a trip to the Orthopedic MD to evaluate his shoulder. Mechanically all seems well, the staff will begin working it during PT. The rest of the day Tyler had various therapies, and was exhausted.

June 20-2 13340

Ty had PT and OT sessions this AM, and is having more PT now. The poor guy is exhausted, but that's what it's going to take. Ty's voice is stronger and he's able to coordinate his movements slightly more. There is still a long way to go.

Become like the sun. If you do so, all darkness will be dispelled. No matter what happens, live confidently with the conviction that you, yourself are the "sun." Of course, in life there are sunny days and cloudy days. But even on cloudy days, the sun is still the sun. Even when you are suffering, it is vital that you strive to keep the sun shining brightly in your heart.

The crew at Josh's graduation. (Mom, Josh, Dad, Grammy, and Marty)

Tyler had some very good sessions of PT. His voice is getting stronger, and he's being taught to propel himself with his legs in his wheel chair. Ty still has issues with double vision, and an inward turned left foot, but we are addressing these in due course.

June 19-2 1730

Tyler had a good day of rest and food. Tomorrow starts a new day of therapy.

Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, but it takes action, perseverance, and facing your fears."
-Gillian Anderson

June 19-1 1100

The family had a late night with a variety of graduation parties accounting for the tardiness of the first blog. Tyler is doing well, and got some well deserved rest overnight. He is eating well, and wished me Happy Father's Day when I entered the room. Sweet, sweet words. Josh is helping Ty with his oral excesses, and today is a mellow no PT day for Ty.
