Events have, to some degree, stabilized into a comfortable routine. Tyler is doing well in school and has therapy twice a week on various afternoons. His friends are as wonderful and goofy as ever, for which Tyler is immensely grateful. Understandably, Ty is in a hurry to resume all aspects of his former life, and yet, in many ways is reminded of the severity of his injuries, and the time and effort needed to heal. All his therapists are very impressed with his progress, and optimistic regarding his level of recovery.

School is progressing, as we had a meeting with various personnel this morning. Ty is working on his organizational skills, and study habits, which are doing well. He has a Horticulture Club meeting today, then it's home to help with chores.

Tyler had a good day in school, and is out to dinner with his Mom. The school part of his recovery seems be be going well, the social aspect with all it's unpredictable personalities, and teenage "stuff" is a challenge as it is, or was, for everyone. All part of the great adventure of life.
Thanks to Will Rogers, and Bob and Bill who forwarded this to me.
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.
2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman.
Neither works.
4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
5. Always drink upstream from the herd.
6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it
and put it back into your pocket.
8. There are three kinds of men:
The ones that learn by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence
and find out for themselves.
9. Good judgment comes from experience and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then
to make sure it's still there.
11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.
12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring.
He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.
ABOUT GROWING OLDER...
First ~Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying
about your age and start bragging about it.
Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers.
Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way.
I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth,
think of Algebra.
Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging
is that it's such a nice change from being young.
Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.
Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks,
it was called witchcraft. Today it's called golf. And, finally ~ If you don't learn to laugh at trouble,
you won't have anything to laugh at when you're old.

The therapy went very well yesterday with Tyler scoring tremendously on 2 tests. He had a short time at home after therapy to rest and do homework, then it was off to a team dinner as a guest of the Track Team. It is becoming more evident that it's going to be a challenge having Ty pace himself. His indomitable spirit wants him to go and do everything. Our job is now to help him exercise patience.

It still seems, sometimes, that I view this great and horrific event through the eyes of someone else. As if transfixed, unable to look away, I'm viewing a grand movie unfolding before me. The events, however surreal, are at least revealing themselves slowly, and so far, in the best possible aspect. Tyler's attitude, focus, and great soul remain intact. He has therapy today and Thursday. As much of a dull routine as these may have become, Ty knows the necessity, and remains resolute in the best of outcomes.
"There is a way of losing that is finding. When soul overmasters sense. When the noble and divine self overcomes the lower self. When duty and honor and love--immortal things bid the mortal perish. It is only when a man supremely gives that he supremely finds."
— Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

The hectic pace of the recent past has , to some degree been replaced by a somewhat steady, constant routine. The changes and advancements for Tyler's recovery are happening at a slower, but steady pace now that he's well passed the acute phase of his injury, and earnestly into the rehabilitation phase. Ty is enjoying the mainstream with his friends, and likes his classes. Therapy is twice a week, and we will be supplementing that with trips to the "Y". Tyler went to Nic's after school, and is having dinner there before going to the Drama club meeting. He's going to need a social secretary soon.

After our traditional stop at Cumby's for coffee, I dropped Ty off at school to commence his duties as front hall greeter. He is doing well mentally, and is a work in progress physically. He is able to function independently in every way, but will still require much therapy to regain all his physical abilities. Last week I had Tyler added to my YMCA membership, so we plan on hitting the pool and exercise room 3 times a week (hopefully).

Tyler and Linda took the dogs for a walk in McLean's Game Refuge,I did some chores and made chili. Ty and I were both tired when he got home and took a nap. When we awoke it was 6:40 PM. We both thought for a second that it was 6:40 AM, Monday morning, and we were late. We figured it out pretty quickly, and had a good laugh at that.

Time is a unique and very relative concept. The disaster in NY was 10 years ago and feels like only yesterday. Yet Tyler's injury was 5 months ago and it seems like years. Ty got home a short time ago and said he had a nice evening at his Mom's. He's home long enough to eat, change clothes, and then take off to go visiting. He needs a social secretary.
