PS

Even though Tyler can receive pictures, we would prefer that he doesn't. The cost per picture is somewhat prohibitive.

July 9-4 1930

Ty had a bunch of company this afternoon including Uncle Rick, and Aunt Nancy from MA, Sue, Kelly, Mom and Gabrielle. Sue and Kelly brought some Jamaican beef patties for Tyler which automatically vaults them to the top of his friend list. His spirits seem very good, which is just confirmation and testament to his dynamic soul.

"The moment we break faith with one another,
the sea engulfs us and the light goes out."
-James Baldwin

July 9-3 1400

Once again Ty ate like he's on his way to a fire (we're glad he has a healthy appetite). Tyler's in good spirits, and Josh was cracking him up while he was eating. We love seeing that great smile.

July 9-2 1130

Tyler is doing well today and had his PT this AM. Everyone says he's progressing nicely. Grammy, Marty. Josh, and I are here and Ty is in good spirits, talking video games with his brother (what else is new).

From the horses mouth:

Tyler is laying right here, and says he's using a cane now and things are kind of dull, send more visitors. That's all for now.

July 9-1 0915

Capone keeping a vigil on the front couch and eagerly awaiting Ty's return.

Tyler had a good afternoon yesterday, with several visitors. After winning at setback he went to the movie in the rec room. Unfortunately Tyler's new glasses didn't arrive so Ty is still wearing the temporary glasses which are a bit goofy yet functional.

PS

Tyler can receive text and pictures on his phone. But what do I know, I still look for 10 cent payphones.

July 8-2 1430

We watched Ty go through some of his lessons today. He's working hard and kidding around with the staff. He had some temporary glasses earlier (make him look like a Kamikaze pilot), and Ty is getting the permanent glasses later today. Also, the staff is going to transition him to Traurig House(assisted and transitional living facility on Gaylord's campus) next week, details on this to follow.

July 8-1 0815

Tyler sounded raring to go this AM with another full slate of PT scheduled. Josh and I are going to visit him this morning, and Mrs. Shaeffer and Hillary are going to see him later. Visitors always brighten his day. When I arrive, I'll be checking on his new glasses.

July 7-3 1825

The boys and Grammy.

Ty sounds like one tired buckaroo. His PT and other therapies went well, but the icing on the cake is the aqua-therapy. Not only does he love the water, he truly feels this is helping his recovery, and that's plenty of medical confirmation for me. If all goes as scheduled, Tyler should get his custom glasses tomorrow, which will help him in many regards.

I spoke with Tyler and came within a whisker of interrupting his lunch, that was a close call. He's having a good day especially since Dave D. brought him General Tsao's chicken last night. He really enjoyed that, thanks. Onward to Speech Therapy, then Aqua-Therapy. Another busy day.

July 7-1 0800

I spoke with Tyler this AM on his cell phone (cool step forward). He is getting ready for another grueling day on the "job". He sounds positive and determined, and we couldn't be prouder of him. I'd like to share a comment I received from Dave, the TBI group facilitator, but for some reason I can't cut and paste on this work computer, I'll post it later. Essentially, Dave related a very positive and motivating experience for all assembled.
All are welcome to write to Tyler anytime.

Thanks to all.

July 6-2 2000

Tyler worked hard today, and saw the optometrist this afternoon. The eye MD is cutting a pair of glasses which should solve his double vision and clear his sight for the most part. He has a meeting of his TBI group this evening, then Ty can finally rest. Tomorrow he's psyched for his aqua-therapy session in the afternoon.

that makes a life worth living."
-Oliver Wendell Holmes

July 6-1 1220

Ty is having a very busy day with many sessions of PT, and an Optometrist appointment at 12:30. His Mom visited this AM, and Grammy, Josh, and I visiting for the afternoon. Tyler is scheduled for aqua-therapy Tuesdays and Thursdays, so he will have another swim session tomorrow.

July 5-3 1700

Ty loved the aqua-therapy, and saw the eye specialist. I'll know more about the eye exam later I hope. He began contributing to the Blog, even though it's a bit of a Herculean effort, it makes him feel more connected. For the first time since his accident I could hear remnants of the old Tyler voice, it was all I could do to keep from breaking down with joy. I watched his stretching PT session, that kid is so focused and determined to get well, my heart soared. I don't know the words to describe how much we love that boy.

tyler here, have limited access to a computer so I'm gonna be posting as well.
Was at aqua therapy today.went well.

July 5-2 1225

Tyler is scheduled for aqua-therapy at 2:00. My classes end at 2:20 then I have to get him an actual bathing suit, so I will find out how everything went and pass it along to our loyal viewers.

July 5-1 0800

Tyler rested comfy throughout the night, and had his usual Grizzly Bear sized breakfast. A nurse who hasn't seen him in a while commented on how well he's doing. He even helps administer his medication. Today is a full round of PT with an eye exam, and hopefully news about starting aqua-therapy.

July 4-3 1930

Tyler had a restful afternoon and a nice visit from Kelly and her Mom. He is feeling well and enjoying the use of the notebook laptop thanks to Heidi Fitzgerald. Tomorrow the work begins again, and we will find out about the Aqua-therapy pool.

July 4-2 1430

Tyler , once again pushed the boundaries of gustatory endurance. He had 2 slices of pizza, then his lunch came, he ate all of that and 3 deserts. All Grammy could say was 'Oy". Overall Tyler is doing well, still unable to use his left arm and hand, but having some movement in the left leg. Therapy is obviously helping, but never at the pace we would wish for.

"Faith is not belief. Belief is passive. Faith is active."
Edith Hamilton

Blog note

Many folks are keeping up on Ty's progress, however the day to day views are down. I will endeavor to be more consistent in my publishing times, and try to enhance the content. The truth is, therapy and rehab are glacially slow processes which don't always lend themselves to the most riveting of accounts. I'll try to add some glitz by tossing in the random fabricated sex scandal, or bank robbery.

July 4-1 0820

Holidays just don't have the same feeling for obvious reasons. In the past on July 4th, the boys and I would fashion home made fireworks, and laugh hysterically while taking turns lighting them off. Those times will return someday, it's just another one of the infinite number of reason we miss having Tyler around so terribly much. Ty slept through the night, and had all his breakfast. We understand there's an abbreviated PT schedule today to maintain consistency in training. Tomorrow the staff is going to check on getting Tyler started in aqua-therapy in their beautiful pool.

Diva is used to being the "star" attraction, while Capone stays home on the couch because he's insane

Ty had a nice visit and picnic today in spite of the light rain. Especially seeing Diva cheered him up.

You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, `My God, you're RIGHT!

I NEVER would've thought of that!'

-- Dave Barry

July 3-1 0830

Diva is the gentle lady yawning on the right, Capone is the emotionally needy sack of fur on Tyler's lap.

I spoke with Tyler and he sounded rested and ready for another day. Josh, Linda, and Gabrielle are planning a picnic for Ty with a special appearance from Diva our Chocolate Lab. Ty is finally going to have some competition for all the food, Diva and Tyler are about equal on the chow hound scale. This should be a fun, and funny day for Ty, I'm hoping to have pictures to post later, or tomorrow
