August 13-2 1600

Busy, busy, day... but fun. Tyler had several visitors, and even went on a short road trip with friends to pick up a video game. The gang is here playing, and Tyler is waiting for his Mom to pick him up for dinner around 5:00. He will sleep well tonight.

I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.

Jackie, one of the great folks that kept after Tyler.

Brothers forever, grins all around.

We just had a nice breakfast, and are relaxing, sorting out the plans for the day. I'm sure there will be visiting and visitations in the mix. Later, Tyler is going to his Mom's for dinner. He looks great, and says he feels fine.

August 12-4 2100

Ty is happy to be home (no kidding, huh). We've had a nice relaxing evening to get settled in and acclimated to home. Tyler is getting evaluated at the Mt. Sinai/St. Frances outpatient therapy group on Tuesday afternoon to determine which program best suits his situation. This is a source of mild frustration, he feels cheated out of his Summer, but understands the necessity of continuing with therapy.

August 12-3 1530

Yahoooooo!!! Tyler's home and getting settled. He looks great and is walking without his cane. First stop was Cumberland Farms for a free Chill Zone drink. Now it's rest and computer games with Josh.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

Ty is having his last lunch at Traurig. The excitement builds.
2 hours, 35 minutes......... and counting.

August 12-1 0710

They say Tyler has got a Cheshire cat grin pasted on his face at the prospect of going home. Josh and I are going down there a bit early to help pack him up and get final instructions. So many prayers have been answered, yet so many prayers yet to go.
6 hours, 45 minutes until the breakout.

Ty sounds great, he is jazzed to come home. After a meal of hot dogs and macaroni and cheese, he's ready to tackle the mall this evening. It's great to hear the enthusiasm in his voice.
20 hours, 15 minutes until we break Ty out of the big house.

Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others, and in their pleasure takes joy, even as though t'were his own.
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

August 11-4 1500

I spoke with Ty a little while ago, he sounds dynamic and ready to move on. According to him, getting the sutures removed was no big deal. Ty is just happy to get his head completely wet now. Rarely do we ever have the chance to derive tremendous inspiration and faith from someone close. I have gained far more strength from Tyler than he has from me. I am proud and in awe of his fortitude and wondrous soul.
22 hours 49 minutes until Tyler's discharge.

August 11-3 1110

Since Ty was in the main building for PT when his appointment rolled around to get his sutures removed, he simply marched himself over to the outpatient clinic and had the nurse remove the stitches. When he arrived at Traurig, the CNA told Ty she was ready to take him for the appointment, Tyler said he had already taken care of it. He looks great and is smiling ear to ear.

August 11-2 0740

I Finally got a chance to speak with Tyler in person... he's a very busy man. Ty's a little nervous about getting the stitches out, but far more excited about his further healing. He says he feels good, and is psyched for his last full day away from home.
1 day, 6 hours, 15 minutes until discharge.

August 11-1 0600

Tyler is fine with the fact, none of us can be there while he gets his sutures removed this morning. He is an incredibly brave young man. I always told Tyler he possessed much more inner strength than he ever gave himself credit for having. The last few months proves this with impunity. 1 day, 7 hours, 50 minutes until Ty is discharged.

August 10-3 2000

Tyler and company had a busy night. After a delicious meal of chili and zuchini bread (made by Tyler), The gang went to a car show, and then got icecream. Needless to say Ty is tired but looking forward to getting his stitches removed tomorrow morning (11:00).

A merry heart doeth good like medicine.
- Proverbs 17:22

August 10-2 1300

Tyler looks great, I found him walking back to the Traurig House unaccompanied. He doesn't need aid to walk, only his cane. The gang is ordering Chinese food and Pizza for lunch, and Ty is making chili for dinner, great eats. Tyler will be discharged on Friday in 1 day 23 hours 13 minutes.

I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
--John 16:22

August 10-1 0830

Tyler and the gang went to the movies last night and saw Friends With Benefits. The staff had to get my permission for him to see it because he's a minor. Ty has been the youngest person in every hospital and ward he's been assigned. It's probably a good thing we weren't exposed to any very young patients of this sort. Tyler's case is tragic enough. Tomorrow all the stitches come out, and he's still scheduled to be discharged on Friday. We are counting the seconds.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Tyler sounds a little tired, it seems all the therapists are getting their last shots at him this week. Otherwise all is well.

Tyler is busy eating breakfast and getting ready for the myriad of therapies which make his day. He's approaching them with a new zeal, with the shining lantern of home looming within reach on the horizon. As I'm writing this, I have been craving the song "So glad we made it" by The Spencer Davis Group, this was Ty's Bar Mitzvah song. It just came on the radio....weird but appropriate. We all know there's a long road ahead, but this is a huge hurdle, and as proud of Tyler as we are for his unbelievable attitude and perseverance, he would be the first to admit he couldn't have done it without all the love and support from all his "peeps". Many Thanks to all.

To say Tyler is exited about coming home this Friday is the understatement of the year. He is full of chicken casserole, and looking forward to going out to Walmart tonight. Before Friday, the staff will remove the sutures, and prepare him for his departure. Ty is a bit self conscious regarding his shaved head, and the scar, but this is overshadowed by his determination to get better, and the joy of coming home (and hair grows back quickly).

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
-(Isaiah 35:10)

August 8-2 1100

Great news, Tyler is coming home for good this Friday. The plan is, to begin outpatient PT at Mt Sinai Hospital 2-3 days per week, then start school to some degree on August 30 (the day before Tyler's birthday... ha ha). We couldn't be happier, more grateful to the Gaylord staff, or more proud of Ty.

For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
-(Psalm 92:4)

August 8-1 030

Packing up is always greeted with mixed emotion. Tyler misses being home as much as we miss having him here, but we are all aware this could be the home stretch. Capone has reclaimed the bed, but looks very sad, saying goodbye to his buddy Ty.

August 7-2 1840

Another delicious dinner at Grammy's. That lady can sure cook a brisket, Ty had thirds. We were chatting after dinner, and Tyler was nodding off. It's an early bed time tonight, Ty and I have to get up very early to meet Linda to return Ty for therapy, and make our meeting with the doctor. The house feels complete having both my boys home.

August 7-1 0800

Sorry there was only 1 blog yesterday, I got a bit lazy and was just enjoying having Tyler home. We had a busy day Saturday with Ty going over to Gabrielle's to visit with Mom and special guests Kelly and her Mom Susan. Then it was a quick nap and off to the Bentley's for the bonfire (yes, in the rain.... kids these days). Russel gave Tyler several CD's, and everyone had fun.
It's breakfast time where Tyler is having the same breakfast found on Olympic training tables, burritos wrapped in bacon... Oy. He loves them so what the heck. Later we have visitors then dinner at Grammy and Marty's place
Linda and I have a meeting tomorrow AM with the Gaylord staff, so Ty will be staying home an extra night and going back with us tomorrow AM.
